About Hervé Maisonneuve
Hervé Maisonneuve, MD, is Associate Professor of Public Health at Paris-Sud 11 School of Medicine, former President of the Global Alliance for Medical Education (2006-2008, www.game-cme.org) and former president of the European Association of Science Editors (1994-1997, www.ease.org.uk), where he also served as chief-editor of European Science Editing (ESE) (2000-2006).
He received his medical degree from the University of Lyons (1979) and holds a degree in business administration from HEC, Paris, 1994). He practiced clinical medicine for ten years in the Lyons hospitals and qualified in both tropical medicine and infectious diseases. He spent 10 years in clinical development in the pharmaceutical industry, as medical director of Solvay’s French subsidiary, and as deputy-manager of a business unit of Mérieux Institute (now part of Sanofi-Pasteur). In 1994, he joined the Agence Nationale d'Accréditation et d'Evaluation en Santé (ANAES) based in Paris, initially as Clinical Guidelines Director, then as Evaluation Director. He was responsible for the development and implementation of clinical guidelines, consensus conferences and the evaluation of healthcare professional practices throughout France. In 2000, he was the editor of www.websurg.com in Strasbourg (2000-2004), an accredited e-learning activity, part of a laparoscopic surgery school (IRCAD). He later was director of Continuing Medical Education at Pfizer France (2005-2009). In 2009, he was named associate professor for public health and created a diploma for the Alzheimer plan, Université Paris-Sud 11. He has a consultancy activity in medical writing and continuing medical education.
He has written extensively on CME and medical writing, and authored books: Maisonneuve H, et al. La Rédaction Médicale. Doin, Paris, 5th edition February 2010, 215 pages; Maisonneuve H, Editor. Science Editors’ Handbook (47 chapters). European Association of Science Editors. June 2003.
